It sucks that moving away leaves only them 😢

Bravo--this is so well said. Substack's business model makes me deeply uncomfortable.

Thank you for migrating! I hate having to use this platform.

I came here for you, and in the process I found others great writers. I will keep follow these other chefs but I will follow you wherever you move!

Andrew, thank you so much for moving platforms. Thank you *more* for laying out such clear reasoning and evidence, and for your compassion to fellow authors who can't move. This is a masterpiece of advocacy.

I am so glad and grateful that you're taking this step. I know it's a big move, and I appreciate that you're able to do it even while working on the book.

Looking forward to your move. The only way to deal with Nazi fascist scum is to starve them of all money and attention.

Good on you Andrew. Well said and well done - as always. This is part of the reason we follow/subscribe to you. I'm sure dealing with these issues was a huge time suck.

Thanks, keep up the good work.

I respect your decision to follow your conscience on this and will follow you wherever you go. I will say that I follow hundreds of writers on Substack, some thanks to your Friday Breadbasket which I very much appreciate, but the vast majority are progressive to liberal to centrist political writers or mainstream journalists who have migrated from legacy media. As well as other writers on subjects that interest me like photography and progressive religion. There is no other current platform that offers the breadth of writers and interests. I know there are bad and even evil writers on the platform but I don’t see them. And I want to support the many good writers who have found a home here. So here I stay and read for now.

Thanks Andrew, for the reminder. The "Substackers Against Nazis" was the only post I ever did on Substack, thanks to your forward of Marisa's post. I thought the stupid response from the founders back then was more than weird. I never wrote anything else on Substack after that. But I did not know that they're still promoting that shit.

Thank you for this!

Thank you for presenting many compelling reasons for changing platforms. As someone caught in the middle, I have thought a lot about this topic... I'm also noticing signs that Substack is moving away from the notion of "we own our space and material" in light of their recent decision to promote other newsletters and authors at the bottom of my online content. I haven't reached any conclusions, but I am contemplating the possibility of new projects and ideas landing on a different platform while keeping my current content as it is on Substack... It's a kind of migration strategy that might work...
